Business Analyst

Department:                      IT

Reports to:                         IT Manager

Hours of work:                   Full-time



System Development –Implement developments in business priority and identify further opportunities to improve systems and communications within the business;
Analysis of Information – Provide an analysis of data to users at all levels of the business from the business information systems through the use of SQL Server Reporting Services;
Application and Database Support – Diagnose and resolve issues relating to the applications currently in use at the Creamery;
Hardware Support – Provide proactive support for all IT hardware in the business including servers, desktops, networking, fixed and mobile telephony, mobile devices, CCTV and access control;
Other duties – to deputise for the IT Manager ensuring the smooth operation of the Creamery.

Business processes – the Creamery is working towards all business information becoming instantly available.  It is therefore envisaged that processes will be automated further;
Information availability – the IT Department will play a leading role in assisting other departments to identify, process and extract data for information purposes;
Continual improvement – the Creamery is committed to continual improvement, and as such, this role is likely to evolve and change;
Flexibility - the job holder is expected to be flexible and adaptable to change in relation to duties and responsibilities.

Principle Accountabilities

Tropos and other software

Develop, test, implement and document processes within Tropos and other Creamery systems to enable effective decision-making across the entire business
Develop reporting to support business decision-making
Provide analysis of data across the business to support cross-departmental decision making

System and user support

Data error identification and correction
Investigations, as appropriate

IT Support and Maintenance

Support end users in a prompt and efficient manner
Monitor hardware and software infrastructure to proactively resolve issues to enable suitable uptime for end users

Other projects

Other projects that arise, of which there are likely to be several, as appropriate to the role


Provide cover for the IT Manager
Comply with all regulations relating to Health and Safety at work, hygiene standards and other legislative requirements
Carry out any other duties as are within the scope, spirit and purpose of the job as is requested by any director or senior manager

Personal Attributes


‘A’ levels or equivalent
Good problem-solving skills
Experience with SQL and manipulation of data
Experience of developing using SQL Server Reporting services and other associated tools
The ability to drive the implementation of improvements
Proven higher level mathematical analytical ability
High level of computer literacy
Excellent prioritisation and organisational skills & ability to meet deadlines
High levels of personal time management
Excellent written and verbal communication skills to both technical, and non-technical colleagues
Excellent interpersonal skills
High levels of accuracy and attention to detail


Computer Science, Mathematics or other relevant Degree or equivalent
Experience of dairy & manufacturing related industries
Proven record of implementing continuous improvements and efficiencies
Project management skills
Relevant hardware and software experience or certifications (e.g. VMWare, Cisco or Microsoft)
Minimum of 2 years experience in a similar role
