  • Position:                            Technical Manager

    Purpose

    The purpose of the Technical Manager is to hold responsibility for Safety, Quality and Legality of product and processes under the direction of the Managing Director.

    The Technical Manager will take a hands on approach to product quality and safety, taking ownership to identify areas of concern, undertake root cause analysis and provide solutions or recommendations to key stakeholders.

     The Technical Manager will also be at the forefront of product development and a key lead in identifying product opportunities for the Company.  

    Principle Accountabilities

    HACCP Team Leader
    Overall responsibility for the Laboratory function
    Ensuring hygiene and product quality meet relevant legal and customer specification
    Liaison with producers on Farm Assurance, Payment testing and Raw milk quality testing issues.
    Manage New Product Development process
    Product quality trouble-shooting and root cause analysis
     

    1.       In conjunction with external laboratories, monitor and report on the safety, quality and specification of all products, ensuring compliance with the Quality Management System (QMS) and implement corrective action procedure in areas of non-compliance.

    2.       In conjunction with Manufacturing Management, develop, manage and maintain systems within Creamery operations to ensure product compliance with legal and customer specifications. This will involve through good working practices, the Quality Assurance of all dairy products processed and manufactured at the Creamery.

    3.       To identify trends in customer complaints, investigating quality issues and working alongside relevant department managers to implement corrective measures.

    4.       To be Isle of Man Creamery Lead Auditor, Auditing suppliers if required / Internal QMS for laboratory (CLAS) and Company (BRC Global Standard)

    5.       Manage, develop and monitor all internal auditing programs, thus depicting Quality trends and developing Quality objectives. Overall responsibility for company QMS.

    6.       Manage, monitor and control the quality and safety of all products through the process of accurate and repeatable laboratory results, ensuring they meet all Dairy Product Hygiene Legislation requirements.

    7.       Overall Responsibility for the function of the Creamery Laboratory, ensuring the CLAS stand is achieved. Organise to ensure that all testing is carried out to a satisfactory standard and in a cost effective manner.

    8.       To manage in conjunction with SAI Global/EFSIS the Farm Assurance Scheme (Red Tractor), ensuring that each producer meets the requirements of the business.

    9.       To provide technical assistance in trouble shooting and problem solving regarding product safety and Creamery hygiene standards, communicating all findings to relevant managers as necessary.

    10.   To be Team Leader of the HACCP team providing technical input as required.

    11.   Manage the Pest Control File, which forms part of the QMS. To ensure that the Contractor is carrying out his duties in a timely fashion and manner suitable for the needs of the business.

    12.   To manage the Farmer Payments Testing Schedule, ensuring that all sampling and testing is completed on time and providing emergency cover for in-house testing as required.

    13.   To understand and ensure conformance to the relevant EU, UK and Isle of Man Dairy legislations and Food Safety Act, together with a working knowledge of General Health & Safety regulations and their implications to the business.

    14.   Represent the Company at a technical level, when requested, at industry seminars and committees, maintaining an understanding of ongoing research and scientific advances.

    15.   To assist in the development and implementation of new processes and procedures to comply with statutory regulations, liaise with local Government Officials and other departments.

    16.   Contribute to and be part of the Senior Management Team, developing new ideas, solutions and constructive input to assist the Managing Director in his overall responsibilities in management of the Company’s affairs.

    17.   Contribute to and be part of the company cheese grading team, providing an independent assessment of cheese quality.

    18.   In the absence of the Technical Manager, the Managing Director shall undertake the senior management roles. All Laboratory management roles will be undertaken by the Technical Team Leader. In the event of both Technical Manager and Technical Team Leader absence the Laboratory roles will be undertaken by the most senior Laboratory Technician.

    19.   Any other duties that the Managing Director may from time to time decide.

    Personal Specification

    Essential Desirable
    Experience 
    At least 10 years experience in Quality Management or Technical Management working with high care, high risk products.   x
    Experience working within the Dairy industry x
    At least 4 years management experience x
    Experience operating ERP/MRP systems x
    Experience in Quality Management Systems x
    Experience of being a Lead Auditor x

    Qualifications and Knowledge  
    Appropriate science based academic/Professional qualifications and/or qualified through relevant Laboratory Experience x

  • Position                            Production Relief Operator

    Reports to:                       Production Manager

     

    Location:                          Isle of Man Creamery

     

    Job Purpose: 

     

    To provide cover for all productions departments for staff holidays and sickness and assist with training and development of individuals and teams within the production department.

    The Relief Operator will be fully trained and competent in all areas of the production department to be able to move into different roles as required and at short notice.

    Principle Accountabilities:

     

    Process Control

    ·           Plan the requirements for the production departments using the milk in stock

    ·           Monitor milk & cream fat percentages to meet product specification & avoid product giveaway

    ·           Ensure that all equipment and machinery is maintained to a satisfactory level of hygienic cleanliness and efficiency.

    ·           To have a hands-on approach to production activities

    ·           Assist with the implementation of systems to improve overall production efficiencies and to help reduce operational costs.

    ·           Carry out laboratory tests when required

     

    Cheesemaking

    Cheesemakers are responsible for producing cheese within legal and customer specifications, to monitor salts & moisture results and adjust cheese make as required and to monitor all cleaning of equipment within the production department.

     

    ·           Using the monthly production plan select recipe required for the days production 

    ·           Monitoring salts, moistures, milk and cream fats daily and adjust as required

    ·           Ensuring that all equipment and machinery is maintained to a satisfactory level of hygienic cleanliness and efficiency.

    ·           To have a hands-on approach to production activities,

    ·           Assist with the implementation of systems to improve overall production efficiencies and to help reduce operational costs.

    ·           Carry out laboratory test when required

    ·           Weekend work is required which will require unloading milk tankers into the factory, testing milk quality in the laboratory, contacting producers and cleaning equipment for Monday’s production

     

     

    Machine Operator

    The Relief Operator will be competent in the use of all the production machines

     

    ·         To operate workstations within the Milk Packing area including Galdi milk carton fillers, cream fillers and to carry out product quality assurance testing

    ·         To operate workstations within the cheeseroom including cheese tables, cheese towers and the Odenberg cheese packer

    ·         To operate workstations within prepack and butter making including bulk butter manufacture and 2kg butter packing, prepacked butter, cheese cutters, weigh labelling machine, block scanning and computer inputting.

     

    Other

    To consistently keep knowledge of production processes up to date and be aware of changes or improvements to be made
    To train, develop and mentor other operators within the department
    To carry out any additional duties as directed by the Production Manager
     

     

    Hours of Work:

    Hours of work will vary dependent on the role being covered. As a general guide shift patterns for each role are:

     

    Process Control

    Shift 1: 1am – 9am

    Shift 2: 8am – 4:30pm

    Shifts rotate on a weekly basis

     

    Cheesemaking

    Shift 1: 1am – 9am

    Shift 2: 6am until finish            

    Shift 3: 7 am until finish

    Shifts rotate on a weekly basis

     

    Machine Operator

    6:30am to 3pm (dependent on production schedules), Monday to Friday.

    As much notice will be given as possible as to which areas the Relief Operator will be working on.

  • Position: Wholesale Driver

    Department: Logistics

    Reports to: Chilled Stores and Distribution Manager

    Job Purpose:

    To deliver Isle of Man Creamery products to wholesale and business customers, providing a friendly contact point to our customers.

    Principle Accountabilities:

    The day to day delivery of milk and associated products within a specified round to meet both company and customer needs.

    • Accurate delivery and recording of all deliveries to customers.
    • Carry out and record daily/weekly vehicle checks and report any damages to line management.
    • To work in conjunction with the Stores department in recording any returned stocks on a daily basis
    • To offer cover for other rounds if and when required to meet business needs.
    • Any other duties as directed by Line Manager, Logistics Manager or MD

    Hours of Work: 

    Monday to Saturday, 4am until 12pm.

    Working on a rota basis of 5 weeks on followed by 1 week off.

    Bank holidays required apart from New Years Day, Christmas Day and Boxing Day.

  • Position: Cheesemaker

    Job Purpose: 

    To produce and manufacture a variety of Isle of Man Creamery award-winning cheeses using local, grass fed milk from our 30 dairy farms.

     

     Principle Accountabilities:

    • Following the weekly production plan select recipe required for the days production 
    • Monitoring salts, moistures, milk and cream fats daily and adjust as required
    • Ensure that all products are manufactured to product and legal specification
    • Ensuring that all equipment and machinery is maintained to a to a high level of hygienic cleanliness and efficiency
    • To have a hands-on approach to production activities
    • Assist with the implementation of systems to improve overall production efficiencies and to help reduce operational costs
    • Assist with the training & development of new process staff to achieve high standards of performance
    • Carry out laboratory tests when required
       

    Hours of Work:

    You will work 1 of 3 shifts which will rotate on a weekly basis
    Shift 1: 1am – 9am

    Shift 2: 6am – finish (between 3pm and 5pm)

    Shift 3: 7am – finish (between 3pm and 5pm)

    You will also work every 1 in every 3 weekends (Saturday and Sunday) plus bank holidays including 1 of either New Years Day, Christmas Day or Boxing Day.
